This is my second poppy picture painted with the dark background. I like the intense color and size of these flowers.
The first time I saw oriental poppies, they were growing in a nursery beside a garden shed and appeared unreal! Their brilliant color is so welcome after a long, cold winter! My garden's saucer-sized poppies provided the inspiration for this watercolor painting. was painted after my first poppy picture; I like the dark background contrasting with these vibrant flowers.

I'm a self-taught artist drawn to art since picking up my first crayon in kindergarten. As a native New Englander growing up in the Berkshires, there were many ready-made scenes just waiting for any artist to immortalize them! After several years of working and raising our family, I've picked up my brushes and paints again to resume an old love, and as anyone interested in art will attest it never ceases to be totally absorbing. I adore painting a variety of subjects, working primarily in watercolor and acrylics. My paintings can be viewed on: judith-monette.pixels.com
