Description
On a vacation in Maine one year, we visited shining Nubble Light on Cape Neddick's rocky coast near York. A familiar destination for lighthouse lovers, it has the distinction of being the most photographed lighthouse in America! Nubble was founded in 1879 at a cost of $15,000 and still operates today although now it's operations are automated, as are all lighthouses. After the last service man from our Coast Guard and his family left their home on the island, The Town of York petitioned the government and was granted guardianship of the property assuring the future of the buildings and the beauty of the island. Nubble Lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places an one of Maine's beautiful destinations!
